Rapper Cardi B continued to deliver surprises on the Billboard Top 100 charts after she maintained her number one position this week.
For a second consecutive week, Cardi B’s breakout single “Bodak Yellow” has secured the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100.
In doing so, the 24-year-old Bronx rapper also again held off competition from Taylor Swift and her Reputation single “Look What You Made Me Do,” which previously topped the chart.
Along with “Bodak Yellow,” the Hot 100’s top six songs remained in place from last week’s chart on the edition dated October 14. Post Malone and 21 Savage’s “rockstar” stayed at No. 2, Swift’s tune remained at No. 3, and Logic, Luis Fonsi, and French Montana kept steady at Nos. 4, 5, and 6, respectively.
Upon hitting No. 1 on the Hot 100, “Bodak Yellow” became the second song by an unaccompanied female rapper to top the chart, following Lauryn Hill’s 1998 song “Doo Wop (That Thing).”
Should Cardi B notch a third week at No. 1, “Bodak Yellow” will become the longest-tenured Hot 100 topper by an unaccompanied female rapper; Hill only occupied the top spot for two weeks with “Doo Wop.”
Naturally, celebrities congratulated Cardi on her accomplishment via social media last week — and the dethroned Swift even sent the rapper flowers.
